There’s one event this year you just can’t miss.

Thanks to a viral video invitation, a teenage girl in rural Mexico is going to have the quinceañera of a lifetime. With a guest list of more than 1 million people for the 15th birthday party, BBC reports, Mexican police are expected to deploy to the bash for security reasons.

Such a huge turnout would easily dwarf the extravagance of any ridiculously expensive Super Sweet 16 party on MTV. In the video invite, 14-year-old Rubi Ibarra Garcia stands smiling in a cheetah-print dress and tiara, as her father opens the December party to everyone who can come. Read more…

In Iran, Instagram models are paying a heavy price for the simple posting of a picture.

Twelve people have been sentenced to prison terms of up to six years for posting their photos to the social platform, France 24 reports. Their convictions are part of the Iranian government’s “Spider II” program, which hunts down Iranians seen as doing “un-Islamic acts” online.

So far at least 170 people, from make up artists to models, have been arrested through the operation that launched in March, according to the Associated Press. State-run television has said the new crackdown especially targets Instagram users. Read more…

Everyone knows Donald Trump is obsessed with Twitter. But Hillary Clinton, it turns out, is the real winner on the social media platform.

Two Clinton tweets were the most retweeted political messages in 2016, while The Donald was runner-up with one of his tweets being third most retweeted, according to Twitter data sent to Mashable.

Heartwarming messages, sharp one-liners, and cutesy birthday shout-outs were among the nine most retweeted political tweets of 2016.

Like the political tweets, trending topics and hashtags also told the story of 2016 — a year that saw police brutality, a mass shooting targeting the LGBT community, unexpected international shifts like the Brexit vote and the unprecedented election of a reality star businessman as U.S. president.  Read more…

The Weather Channel has slammed Breitbart for using its reporting to argue that the earth is cooling, when in fact, it definitely is not.

Brietbart‘s use of an unrelated Weather Channel video to back up false claims that the earth is getting colder just didn’t sit well with the weather reporting service, which rarely if ever sticks its nose in anything political. It delivered a scathing and informative video message on Tuesday.

The site didn’t stop there. It also ran a story entitled “Note to Breitbart: Earth Is Not Cooling, Climate Change Is Real and Please Stop Using Our Video to Mislead Americans,” alongside the video message. Read more…

At Trump Tower, you can have it all. And under a Donald Trump presidency, that means Secret Service protection.

That’s how the New York City real estate agency Douglas Elliman has advertised units inside the flashy Manhattan skyscraper at least.

The security detail was described as the hot new thing at Trump Towers in an email the agency sent out less than a week after Trump’s election, according to Politico.

“Fifth Avenue Buyers Interested in Secret Service Protection?” was the subject line of an email advertisement for 1,052-square-foot luxury condos going for $2.1 million. Read more…

A sense of victory swept through the camp of #NoDAPL protesters late Sunday and Monday.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it wouldn’t grant an easement needed to finish the the $3.7 billion Dakota Access Pipeline near the Standing Rock Sioux reservation.

While the jubilation might be short-lived with President-elect Donald Trump waiting in the wings, for now, the mood at the camps in North Dakota is festive.

To Kill a Mockingbird and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn have been temporarily removed from some Virginia schools for racial slurs — a decision some are condemning as censorship.

Copies of the classic American novels have been lifted from the shelves of classrooms and libraries across a school district in Accomack County, Virginia, according to The Washington Post. While the books are already gone, the school district still has to decide whether it’s going to permanently ban them.

“We have a committee looking at all of this,” Chris Holland, district superintendent, told Delmarva Now. “There’s been no recommendation right now.” Read more…

Tumblr page shows Trump supporters who don’t endlessly defend him

Throughout his campaign, supporters of Donald Trump loyally stood by his in-your-face bombast, from that very lewd Access Hollywood clip to the blunt insults he threw time and time again.

In their eyes, The Donald could do no wrong.

Now the “Trumpgrets” Tumblr is bringing to life those #MAGA voters who do have a critical thing or two to say about the President-elect. Some concerns regard equal pay, medicare funding, or the fact that Trump isn’t trying to put Hillary Clinton in jail, and even went so far as to call the Clintons “good people.”
