The most beloved version of ‘Counter-Strike’ will live on as a mod for ‘CS:GO’

Sometimes the sequels just don’t compare to the original.

Counter-Strike modder “Zool” released a trailer for an upcoming mod called Counter-Strike: Classic Offensive, which takes the beloved Counter-Strike (version 1.6) and recreates it in 2012’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The mod is currently in closed beta and is expected to release on Dec. 25.

The original Counter-Strike launched more than 16 years ago and became one of the most popular and longest-lasting competitive first-person shooters in the worldCS was actually created as a mod for Valve’s game Half-Life, but it was then acquired by Valve and turned into a full-fledged series. You can now get glove skins in ‘Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players are freaking out over fancy gloves.

In a completely unexpected addition to Tuesday’s CS:GO update, developer Valve introduced a brand new way to customize your look: different styles of gloves.

The update makes it possible for players to collect the Glove Case, which — when opened — randomly drops one of the 24 different glove skins or 17 weapon skins. 

It works like other cases in CS:GO — you need a key purchased with real money to open one, and the contents inside are randomized. You aren’t guaranteed to get the exact loot you want when you open the Glove Case; you might not even get a glove. Read more…

How to watch the $1.1 million ELeague ‘CS:GO’ Season 2 playoffs

Only eight Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams are left in ELeague Season 2: Team Dignitas, SK Gaming, Astralis, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Mousesports, OpTic Gaming, Virtus.pro and FaZe Clan.

ELeague Season 2 is one of the last big tournaments of the year and one of the last LAN events for these teams to prove themselves before the first Major of 2017 in January. 

The quarterfinals matches start at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday and Thursday on Twitch, followed by the first semifinals match at 5 p.m. ET Friday and the second match at 10 p.m. ET broadcast on both Twitch and TBS. The finals finish off Season 2 of ELeague on Twitch and TBS at 4 p.m. ET Saturday. Read more…
