For the second year in a row, Johnny Depp’s films can barely justify his paycheck. We know that famous actors can make tens of millions of dollars for their work, but the understanding of those who pay them is that the movies will earn it back — in a big way.
That wasn’t the case for Depp, the year’s most overpaid actor according to Forbes; Depp’s films made $2.80 for every dollar he was paid. He and other big-name stars had films’ fates riding on their bankability and didn’t always deliver to the extent producers wanted, though, to be fair, Depp’s movies are bringing in more than he makes. To honor International Elimination of Violence Towards Women Day, Amber Heard recorded an emotional two-minute video detailing her experience in — and path out of — an abusive relationship.
“There is a lot of shame attached to that label of ‘victim’,” Heard says in the video, which was shot for The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet in partnership with #girlgaze. “If I hadn’t had a few people that I really trust around me, a few women, support, a few friends, if I didn’t have them around me, how different my life would be.”
In May, Heard was granted a restraining order against actor Johnny Depp, her husband at the time. She alleged that Depp rampaged around their shared condo, attacked her with a bottle of wine and hit her in the face with a thrown cellphone, court documents revealed. Read more…
