Johnny Depp is Hollywood’s most overpaid actor according to ‘Forbes’

For the second year in a row, Johnny Depp’s films can barely justify his paycheck. We know that famous actors can make tens of millions of dollars for their work, but the understanding of those who pay them is that the movies will earn it back — in a big way. 

That wasn’t the case for Depp, the year’s most overpaid actor according to Forbes; Depp’s films made $2.80 for every dollar he was paid. He and other big-name stars had films’ fates riding on their bankability and didn’t always deliver to the extent producers wanted, though, to be fair, Depp’s movies are bringing in more than he makes.  Read more…

Election, Olympics and Pokemon top the year’s Twitter trends

History will remember — or choose to forget — a lot about 2016, and much of that will live forever archived on Twitter.

Even without new music, Taylor Swift is the highest-paid musician of 2016

That’s one way to shake off the haters. Taylor Swift topped Forbes’ list of the 30 highest-paid musicians in the world

The 2016 list includes Rihanna, Paul McCartney, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and even Swift’s ex Calvin Harris — but Swift swept them all away. At $170 million in annual earnings, she beat out the second-highest paid musical outfit, One Direction ($110 million), which no longer even exists. 

“She not only delivers with solid music and great live concert performance experiences, but she is also young, poised, beautiful and—so far—relatively non-controversial,” said Fox Rothschild attorney Lori Landew. “Brands … see her as a safe and reliable spokesperson who is very aware of her brand equity and is strategic about protecting its value.” Read more…
