Logic Pro X Optimized for iMac Pro as Motion and Compressor Updated to Support 360º VR Video, HEVC, and More

Alongside the release of Final Cut Pro X version 10.4 today, Apple has updated its other pro software Logic Pro X, Motion, and Compressor.


Logic Pro X has been updated with optimized performance for the iMac Pro, with support for up to 36 cores. Version 10.3.3 also includes performance and stability improvements, including a fix for an issue which could cause user-created content to become unavailable on macOS High Sierra.

Motion has been updated with support for 360º VR motion graphics. Users can now import 360° video and design 360° titles, generators, and effects, and later output the 360° video to a connected VR headset. Version 5.4 also supports import, playback, and editing of HEVC video and HEIF photos from Apple devices.

Compressor has also been updated with support for 360º VR delivery and HDR and HEVC video on macOS High Sierra.

Apple's new versions of Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, Motion, and Compressor are available from the Updates tab in the Mac App Store.

Final Cut Pro X 10.4 Released With 360º VR Video Editing, HDR, and More as Logic Pro X and Motion Also Updated

Apple today announced it has released Final Cut Pro X version 10.4 and updated versions of Logic Pro X and Motion just ahead of the iMac Pro launching today.


As previewed earlier this year, Final Cut Pro X 10.4 includes 360º VR video editing, HDR support, and new color tools like a white balance picker. It also includes support for HEVC, the new video format introduced in macOS High Sierra and iOS 11, and direct import of iMovie for iOS timelines.


Meanwhile, Logic Pro X has been updated with optimized performance for the iMac Pro, including support for up to 36 cores. Motion has been updated with support for 360 VR motion graphics. Apple Updates Logic Pro X With New Drummers and Performance Improvements

Apple today updated its professional audio editing software Logic Pro X to version 10.3.2, introducing bug fixes, performance improvements, and a couple of new features.

Today's update brings three new Drummers able to play percussion in the styles of Pop, Songwriter, and Latin, and the new Drummer loops can be added to songs and customized with performance controls.

Apple has also improved the responsiveness of the graphical user interface, introduced an automatic time align feature for improved morphing in Alchemy, and debuted new tools for fine tuning the pitch of an audio region. The full change list is below:

Apple’s Logic Pro X for Mac and GarageBand for iOS Receive Major Updates

Apple today announced major updates for music creation software GarageBand and professional editing software Logic Pro X, introducing a number of new features for its music-related apps.

GarageBand version 2.2 for iOS devices includes the Alchemy creative synthesizer that was added to Logic Pro X in 2015, along with a new sound browser to make it easier for users to find instruments and specific sounds.

Alchemy includes more than 150 Apple-designed patches from a variety of genres ranging from EDM and Hip Hop to Rock and Pop. Using Alchemy's Transform Pad, GarageBand users can now create "expressive synth performances."

A redesigned Audio Recorder lets users add one-tap vocal effects to recordings and use features like pitch correction, distortion, and delay, while an interactive graphic Visual EQ and other advanced audio processing tools have been added for professional users.

Logic Pro X for Mac has been updated to version 10.3, introducing new features, a refreshed interface, and Touch Bar support, allowing the Touch Bar on the 2016 MacBook Pro to be used for music editing. The Touch Bar features quick access to navigation tools and Smart Controls, plus it can be used for playing and recording instruments using a piano keyboard or drum pads.

A new Track Alternatives feature lets users create and switch between different playlists of regions and edits, and Selection-based Processing lets users apply Logic or third-party plug-ins onto one or more audio region.

With iOS integration, Logic Pro X users can also add new tracks to Logic sessions from their iPhone or their iPad when away from their Mac, and a new share option lets users upload GarageBand-compatible versions of Logic projects to iCloud that can be opened on iOS devices. New recordings can be added via GarageBand on an iOS device and then synced back to Logic Pro X when the project is opened on a Mac.
