Forget Santa, this family’s holiday light display is all about Prince

In Chaska, Minnesota, just five minutes away from Prince’s Paisley Park recording studio, there is a house.

But this particular house, decked out with holiday lights like many across America, is not just any house. This house decided to mourn the passing of musical legend Prince with a five-minute light show in honor of the artist, with “Purple Rain” and all.

Snapchat Spectacles are now being used in professional sports too

With the NBA, NFL and other pro sports leagues already embracing Snapchat, the NHL is throwing its hat in the ring — er, on the ice — by incorporating Snapchat Spectacles into its fan experience. 

The Minnesota Wild used Snapchat’s video-recording glasses — which wirelessly transfer 10-second video to a user’s Snapchat app — to capture behind-the-scenes action, including pre-game warmups, locker room shots and T-shirt canon firing, at a game in November.

By breaking out the Spectacles, Minnesota is the first professional sports team to use wearable. Snapchat partnered with advertising agency space150 to pull it off.  Read more…

Apple Maps Now Supports Transit in Minneapolis–Saint Paul

Apple Maps has been updated with comprehensive transit data for Minnesota's twin cities Minneapolis and Saint Paul, enabling iPhone users in the metropolitan area to navigate using public transportation, including Metro Transit buses and trains.

Apple introduced Transit in Maps as part of iOS 9 in select cities around the world, including Baltimore, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto, and over 300 cities in China. The feature has its own tab in Apple Maps on iOS 10 when entering directions.

Transit routing is now available in several other cities, including Atlanta, Columbus, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Honolulu, Kansas City, Melbourne, Miami, Montréal, Pittsburgh, Portland, Prague, Rio de Janeiro, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Diego, Seattle, and parts of British Columbia, Canada and New South Wales, Australia.

LONDON — A Somali-American teen has made history after she wore a burkini and a hijab when participating in the semifinal of the Miss Minnesota USA pageant

Halima Aden was met with rapturous applause when she stepped out on stage in a burkini during the swimsuit segment of the contest. 

The 19-year-old St Cloud college student was born in a refugee camp in Kenya, which borders Somalia, and moved Minnesota as a young child.
