Donald Trump’s transition team has confirmed that Michael Flynn Jr., the son of Trump’s national security adviser, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, has lost his job. The announcement follows a series of tweets in which Flynn Jr. fanned the #Pizzagate conspiracy theory.

Flynn, 33, “was helping his father with some administration and scheduling duties early on in the transition process,” Trump team spokesman Jason Miller said, adding that he is “no longer involved with the transition efforts.”

In one of his tweets, Flynn Jr said: “Until #Pizzagate proven to be false, it’ll remain a story. The left seems to forget #PodestaEmails and the many “coincidences” tied to it.” Read more…

One man has taken the fight against fake news into his own hands after his local pizza restaurant became embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy theory.

On Dec. 4, police arrested 28-year-old, Edgar Maddison Welch of Salisbury, North Carolina, after he entered Comet Ping Pong restaurant in Washington D.C. armed with an assault rifle and fired a shot. Welch claimed he was investigating conspiracy theories about Hillary Clinton and campaign chairman John Podesta running a child sex ring inside of a pizza place, referred to as “#Pizzagate.”

On Sunday afternoon, an armed man walked into pizzeria Comet Ping Pong in Washington, D.C., firing his weapon at least once and causing a whole lot of havoc.

The reason for his actions? He was there to “self-investigate” an online conspiracy theory now handily known to those online as “Pizzagate,” one of the weirdest, most grotesque Hillary Clinton conspiracy theories ever circulated (which is saying something).

But to the casual news consumer, this may be the first they’ve heard of Pizzagate. So, if this is you, here’s the backstory. Read more…

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has not only issued a formal apology on the social media platform for editing comments made about him on the site by Donald Trump supporters, but he’s announced a big change to the site as well.

In a long post on r/announcements, Huffman begins by saying, “tl;dr: I fucked up. I ruined Thanksgiving. I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”

Perhaps the biggest news, though, is buried in Huffman’s PS: There’s now filtering available on the popular r/all. Huffman shared a video (below) on how users can filter out subreddits from their personal r/all page.  Read more…

Trump trolls on Reddit want the site’s CEO to quit over his response to a bizarre sex scandal called #Pizzagate. Crazily enough, they might be right.

If you haven’t heard, #Pizzagate is the hashtag used by trolls spreading the unhinged, bogus claim that Hillary Clinton was involved in a child sex ring running out of a Washington, D.C. pizza parlor. Several employees of that pizza parlor received death threats as a result. It’s exactly the sort of steaming pile of trash that Reddit’s uniquely positioned to cultivate—it’s just surprising it took so long to get here. Read more…

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman is at the centre of controversy after confessing that he edited comments made about him on the site by Donald Trump supporters.

Huffman, who co-founded Reddit with Alexis Ohanian in 2005 and goes by the username ‘spez’, admitted to changing abusive posts about him to mention the moderators of Reddit’s biggest pro-Trump subreddit, r/the_donald

“Yep. I messed with the “fuck u/spez” comments, replacing “spez” with r/the_donald mods for about an hour,” he said in response to a post in which users called him out for that.

“As the CEO, I shouldn’t play such games, and it’s all fixed now,” Huffman said. “Our community team is pretty pissed at me, so I most assuredly won’t do this again.”   Read more…
