Spark for iOS and Mac Gain New Reminder and Send Later Features

Popular email app Spark for Mac and iOS was today updated with several new features aimed at professionals, including "Send Later" and "Follow-up Reminders."

Send Later is designed to allow users to schedule emails to be sent at a later time instead of right away. Spark users can compose an email and then schedule it at the time when it's most likely to be read.

The feature can be accessed by choosing the Send Later icon when composing an email, which will pop up an option to choose a time.

Follow-up reminders are meant to remind Spark users to follow up on emails that have been sent out and not responded to.
Professional follow-up is an art that both sender and recipient appreciate. Everyone gets busy and can easily miss important emails. In this case, friendly follow-up reminders help you get a response when the timing is right. Use follow-up Reminders in Spark to ensure that your message doesn't end up in limbo.
On iOS devices, the Spark app has been updated with a new email composer to accommodate the two new features. The new design is meant to make it easier to choose the From email address, and more explicit CC and BCC buttons are supposed to make it easier to manage CC/Bcc contacts.

The new Spark features are available today in both the iOS and Mac apps, which are free downloads. [iOS: Direct Link] [Mac: Direct Link]

Mac Email App ‘Spark’ Gains New Smart Search Feature

Readdle's popular Spark email app expanded to the Mac late last year, and now the company has introduced a major update that brings a new Smart Search feature.

According to Readdle, there are several under-the-hood changes that have been made to enable the new search feature and to make it speedy. Smart Search is able to provide instant access to files and attachments as well as relevant search suggestions, all displayed in an intuitive UI.

Search queries are visualized with smart keywords to get to relevant results more quickly, and keywords can be customized to fit specific criteria like emails from the last week or emails with attachments. It also supports natural language, so searches like "show me emails from Eric from the last two weeks" will bring up the relevant content.

Along with the new search feature, today's update also includes syncing for snoozed emails, reduced CPU consumption, and improved memory and disk usage.

Apple Mail Engineering Manager Terry Blanchard Joins Readdle to Work on Popular Email Client ‘Spark’

Readdle has hired former Apple Mail engineering manager Terry Blanchard in a position that will focus on creating the "future of email" for Readdle's popular email client "Spark," working with an entirely new team of his choosing in Silicon Valley. Blanchard's new role, per his LinkedIn page, is vice president of engineering for Readdle.

Spark is modernizing email as we know it. We share a fundamental vision of what the future of email should be. I’ve always admired Readdle for their beautiful and innovative products, which makes them the ideal company to turn that vision into a reality.
At Apple Blanchard worked on the Mail team for six years, where he led a team of developers which created and continually fostered updates for the UX design and development of Apple's first party email client, simply called Mail on iOS and macOS. Besides his new title and location in Silicon Valley, Blanchard's role at Readdle hasn't been given many specifics but it's expected that the engineer will take his expertise in the email client design space and apply it to Readdle's popular stock of iOS and macOS applications.

Last November Readdle launched Spark on Mac, bringing the app's Smart Inbox feature to Apple's desktop and laptop computers for the first time. Smart Inbox intelligently organizes email into different categories (Personal, Notification, and Newsletters), making sure important messages are always highlighted first. Spark continuously learns which emails are most important for you to make inbox management as easy as possible, and on Mac also includes Quick Replies, Touch Bar support, snooze capabilities, and cross-device syncing.

Regarding its new hire, Readdle said that "Terry is a valuable addition to our team and brings years of experience from one of the best companies in the world."

Readdle's range of productivity apps for Apple devices includes PDF Expert, Spark, Scanner Pro, Calendar 5, PDF Office, Printer Pro, PDF Converter, and Documents.

Readdle Expands Popular ‘Spark’ Email App to the Mac

Readdle today announced that its popular Spark email client for iOS devices is expanding to Apple's Mac lineup with the launch of Spark for Mac.

Like Spark for iOS, Spark for Mac includes a Smart Inbox feature, which intelligently organizes email into different categories (Personal, Notification, and Newsletters), to make sure important messages are always highlighted first.

Learning capabilities allow Spark to be told when an email is important, and the next time a similar message is received, it'll send a notification. Spark's Smart Notifications are designed to make sure you only get a notification when you get a message worth being alerted about.

Spark for Mac includes natural language search, so it responds to commands like "Find all my emails with PDFs," or "Find the email from Eric last Tuesday," and there are deep customization tools for personalizing Spark to meet your needs.

Other Spark features include Quick Replies, Touch Bar support, snooze capabilities, and cross-device syncing.

Spark for Mac is available from the Mac App Store starting today. Like Spark for iOS, Spark for Mac is a free app. [Direct Link]

Update: Readdle says the launch has been delayed, as Apple's approval of Spark for Mac is still pending.
